What this result covers

  • Does not determine substrate, moisture, expansion, fastening, or installation requirements.
  • Use the result as a purchasing estimate and verify product instructions, site conditions, and local requirements before work begins.

How the calculation works

Formula

area × (1 + waste percentage) ÷ entered coverage per box

Assumptions used

  • Each box has the entered usable coverage.

The tool keeps user-entered product values separate from the geometry, then rounds the recommended purchasing quantity up where the material is bought as a whole unit.

Worked example

Project inputs
450 ft², 8% waste, 22.5 ft² per box
Purchase result
22 boxes after rounding up.

Enter these values in the calculator to reproduce the estimate. The purchase result uses the same tested calculation logic as the live tool.

Purchasing checklist

  1. Confirm product instructions.
  2. Read box coverage.
  3. Check lot and acclimation requirements.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming universal box coverage.
  • Ignoring layout waste.
  • Combining incompatible lots.
